On Saturday, May 18, 2024, Alzheimer’s Orange County (AlzOC) hosted its 14th Annual Caregiver Recognition Day celebration at Northgate’s corporate offices to recognize the dedication, love and hope of local care partners that participate in AlzOC’s Latino Program.
55 local care partners were recognized for their dedication to the compassionate care they provide for people affected by Alzheimer’s disease or a related form of dementia, a condition that is disproportionately affecting Latinos compared to other populations. According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), the “Latino community is estimated to be 1.5 times more prone to develop AD than White Non-Hispanics” and estimates “Latinos with [Alzheimer’s disease] will increase nine-fold by 2060, reaching 3.5 million.”
The family caregivers and others who provide direct care to those affected play a crucial role in providing care and serve as inspiring examples to others. We are grateful to everyone who made this event possible to help us honor many in our community who exemplify compassionate care. Notable attendees included AlzOC board member Sonia Garcia, Gabriella Lemus from the office of Congressman Lou Correa, and all the program speakers: Pastor Fabian Vera from Templo Calvario, Dr. Guillermo Da Silva-Montemayor, Associate Clinical Director from Nsight Mental Health and Wellness, and psychologist Grace Soria from Vision y Compromiso Promotoras. Their presence and words were inspiring and encouraging to all who attended.
Special thanks to the support of Northgate Corporate Offices, CalOptima, Bella Vida Hospice, Amistad Medical Senior Clinic, Eureka Health Plan, Farmacia Anaheim, and Dignity Memorial and everyone else that contributed to the music, food and program of the event.
