Hearing Loss and Dementia in Older Adults (Zoom)

38.2 million Americans aged 12 years or older have hearing loss and those living with hearing loss are at a higher risk of dementia. This course explores the intricate relationship between hearing loss and dementia in older adults, delving into the physiological and cognitive mechanisms underlying their correlation. Through an interdisciplinary approach, we will examine current research findings, clinical implications, and therapeutic interventions aimed at mitigating cognitive decline associated with hearing impairment. Participants will explore how these conditions interact and impact one another, gaining insights into the challenges individuals face and strategies to improve their quality of life.

At the completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  1. Recognize the relationship between hearing loss and dementia in older adults.
  2. Identify common symptoms and challenges associated with concurrent hearing loss and dementia
  3. Understand the importance of early detection and intervention in managing hearing loss and its potential impact on cognitive decline
