This comprehensive course explores proactive strategies to prevent elder abuse through thoughtful legal and financial planning. Participants will gain knowledge on essential tools, including advance directives, living trusts, wills, power of attorney, and conservatorship. The course also addresses the California Probate Code, alternatives to conservatorship, and the use of Anti-Isolation Elder Abuse Restraining Orders. Designed for caregivers, professionals, and families, this course equips attendees with practical approaches to empower and protect older adults by promoting informed decisions, reducing vulnerability, and ensuring dignity and safety.
At completion of the course, participants will be able to:
- Explain the critical role of legal and financial planning in preventing elder abuse.
- Analyze the purpose and benefits of advance directives, living trusts, and wills in protecting the autonomy and assets of older adults.
- Interpret the California Probate Code, the process of establishing conservatorship, and viable alternatives to reduce potential for abuse.
- Discuss the application of Anti-Isolation Elder Abuse Restraining Orders as a protective tool against social isolation and exploitation.
- Develop personalized plans that integrate legal, financial, and social safeguards to prevent elder abuse and maintain quality of life for older adults.
- Evaluate the significance of power of attorney documents, the concept of capacity, and the legal safeguards for ethical decision-making.
