Making a difference one family at a time – Kim Bailey
From our early days to our new growth, Kim Bailey has been a force for good. Today she continues to make a difference one family at a time. Watch her share her Alzheimer’s OC story.
“Here at Alzheimer’s Orange County, we’re a family helping families living with Alzheimer’s and other disorders,” said Kim Bailey, MS, Gerontology.
Kim is an Education and Programs Specialist at the nonprofit that is now commemorating 40 years of service to Orange County.
She has proudly devoted more than 30 years of her life to making the lives of those she and her fellow AlzOC family members serve a little easier and more comfortable as they meet the challenges of memory disorders.
The impact AlzOC and what the organization does has had on her life is profound. “It’s my cause. It’s my passion.” There’s nothing place she’d rather be to ply her skills.
Kim co-coordinates several outstanding programs under the heading of “Our Gang,” that began in 2015. Most are now held on Zoom. The programs include early-stage support groups for persons living with early memory loss and for care partners of individuals living with early memory loss. The A-Z caregiver support groups are for care partners of individuals living with moderate to late stage dementia.
Our Gang picnics are held monthly in a local park. The Connect 2 Culture program offers activities online and in-person. There is also an After Dementia support group for bereaved care partners.
“When people get the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease, they can sometimes become socially isolated, so we established programs and places to come to where everybody is struggling with the same issue.”
