The Organization that Saved My Life
That sounds a little melodramatic but AlzOC played a major role in helping me provide the best possible care for my husband of 56 years. I was introduced to AlzOC at Oasis Senior Center where a support group led by Vic and Jamie and later Denise allowed me to vent, gather resources, and connect with others who were experiencing similar challenges. The funniest thing is that when I walked into the first meeting I was nervous and there was a former neighbor, a work colleague and a few PTA Moms that I had known for years and immediately I felt welcome. I was a regular at the Saturday morning workshops and often attended Our Gang Fridays. My husband had Lewy Body Dementia, a particularly difficult type of dementia to manage. With your help, I hung in there until the last 8 months when I had to place him in a memory care facility. I still attend Kathy’s after Alzheimer’s group on Zoom and I made AlzOC the charity for donations upon the death of my husband in April of 2021. My daughter and I walked in the Angels Stadium walk as did my son and oldest daughter in their communities. Today I often counsel friends of friends and always steer them toward Alzheimer’s Orange County.
