Tribute To Mom
My name is Joan Walker. I am currently a volunteer member of AlzOC Interfaith Outreach. I was a caregiver for my mom who passed from Alzheimer’s in 1995. Mom loved going to church. Before Alzheimer’s took away her memory and dignity she loved to go to church. She had a little VW Rabbit and would drive across the street and attend Mass daily. Even after her loss of memory she still would attend Mass with family.
Many years ago, I became a member of the Interfaith Outreach Committee. I wanted to do whatever I could for those suffering from memory impairment. The outreach committee provides much needed spiritual support for those like my mom.
Our mission is to provide individuals with dementia, their families and caregivers the opportunity for spiritual connection. We coordinate special worship services designed specifically for those with dementia with various houses of worship throughout Orange County, one each month. We work closely with clergy and congregations to coordinate these monthly worship services.
I love what I do. You will too so get involved. We need you. Thank you for allowing me to share my story. May God Bless you.
